Initial situation

Until June 2015, the electricity supply to the two clinics in El Jire Rapha was provided exclusively by generators. Since these were in very frequent use and often required repairs due to the heat and dust, alternatives were sought. The electricity from the Moundou city grid appeared to be becoming more reliable and cheaper in recent years.

Project

The hospital was connected to the public power grid through co-financing with the clinic. As is customary locally, the cables and power poles had to be financed and installed by the interested party. After a month of testing the system, it was determined that power was available approximately 50% of the time. Consequently, the power line was extended to the surgical clinic to relieve the strain on its generators and allow it to also benefit from the city's electricity supply.
