Initial situation

Back in 2013, several new beds with metal frames were installed at the El Jire Rapha Clinic, and these have proven very effective. Due to the clinic's growth and the construction of a new surgical center, more beds became necessary. Furthermore, births were being performed on wobbly, old birthing tables, which made the process very strenuous and cumbersome for both the mothers and the midwives.

To provide an indication of the actual prevalence, as in 2013, Hansruedi Zurbrügg's team at the AATEK carpentry and metalworking workshop in Koyom produced beds for the El Jire Rapha Clinic. Production was carried out efficiently, and delivery took place within just a few weeks. The birthing table was designed and constructed in close consultation with the midwives to precisely meet their needs. All work is of high quality and is expected to be of great benefit to the clinic for years to come. In April 2015, an additional birthing table was ordered for Djamane Mbarissou, as it had proven very successful in Moundou.
