Solarstromanlage
Initial situation
Until the end of 2020, the electricity supply at El Jire Rapha relied on diesel generators and the unreliable public power grid. Maintaining the generators and the diesel fuel was very expensive. The first solar project, a solar-powered refrigerator for vaccines, was installed in 2018 and has proven successful.
Project
Following intensive planning with the assistance of AATEK in Koyom, led by our long-standing partner Hansruedi Zurbrügg, we procured several components, such as inverters and timers, in Switzerland and transported them to Chad. The solar panels, batteries, and other accessories were sourced locally. Installation took place in January 2021. Since then, El Jire Rapha has had a stable 24-hour power supply. This has significantly improved both the quality and safety of treatments and noticeably enhanced the working conditions for all employees. Only high-power appliances, such as a sterilizer or an X-ray machine, still require the use of a diesel generator.
